10-Story Shake Table

The tallest building ever tested on a shake table.

Sensequake technologies are being used on the tallest building ever tested on a Shake Table, a full scale 10-Story Building, at UC San Diego in California.

Bringing innovation to landmark research.

In the video above, John Cruikshank, PE, F.ASCE, CEO and President of our partner JMC2, explains the process of conducting a baseline test using our rapid testing technology.

Our teams were on-site at the UC San Diego shake table with our sensing technologies, providing innovative insight into this landmark research project. Using our Larzé rapid testing system, we tested 44 different sensor locations to obtain a baseline of the building including mode shapes, natural frequencies and damping ratios, as well as use our patented seismic evaluation methodology to predict non-structural and structural behaviour under shaking levels.

Based on our rapid testing solution and Sensequake's proprietary technology, after scanning the structure and performing in-depth structural analysis to understand the building behaviour, we were able to optimize a permanent sensor solution using our ShakeLog system. This system was deployed on the structure to track the building parameters and properties in real-time during shaking events using artificial intelligence. Automated alarms and reports were sent during the shaking events, with up to magnitudes of 8M being recorded on the shaker.

Together these two systems compliment each other to make up the state-of-the-art approach to structural health monitoring and analysis.
